How you play Protection Warrior

Build Rage with Shield Slam and spend it on Shield Block and Ignore Pain: that is your armor.

Your buttons, most important first

  1. Shield Block up almost all the time while enemies hit you. Never sit on 2 charges.
  2. Rage almost full? Ignore Pain. It does not block your other buttons, so press it in between.
  3. Avatar and Demoralizing Shout when ready. Shield Slam every time it is ready: it gives the most Rage.
  4. Thunder Clap and Shield Charge on cooldown. Nothing else ready? Revenge.
More enemies: Same buttons. On a new pack, Thunder Clap first so every enemy attacks you, not your friends.
Biggest mistake: Spending all your Rage on Revenge: then none is left for Shield Block and Ignore Pain.

Hero talents

Mountain Thane: Thunder Clap sometimes turns into Thunder Blast. Press it right away; Avatar gives you two.
Colossus: Demolish on cooldown, best with Avatar. Spare Rage goes to Revenge.

From the guides: Icy Veins 18 Aug · Method 11 Aug 2026. A patch can change this.

Group

Buttons you press for someone else or for the whole group. For one person: click their name first, then press the button. The grey note says when a button works differently.

to protect someone else: put it on them just before a big hit
when someone is stuck: rooted, slowed or feared
helps everyone near you at once

Consumables

What to bring for this spec. Point at an item for its tooltip.

In the game this card knows your character. Every button shows the key it is on for you right now, the lists above drop whatever you have not learned, and your bags are checked for the consumables.
